Chelsea will reportedly support any decision Maurizio Sarri takes over assistant Marco Ianni, who provoked Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on Saturday.
Ianni’s celebration after Chelsea’s 96th-minute equaliser against United prompted a melee around the tunnel at Stamford Bridge, with Mourinho needing to be held back.
The former Inter boss confirmed he had accepted an apology from the assistant after the 2-2 draw, while Sarri said he would deal with the matter.
Ianni’s actions were widely criticised by the English Press, and there have been calls for him to step down from his role with the Blues.
However, Sky Sports reports Chelsea ‘will not override whatever action Sarri deems appropriate’, despite the coach’s conduct ‘falling well below standards’.
Furthermore, the English FA would be waiting for referee Mike Dean’s report ‘before deciding whether any further action is warranted’.
The 32-year-old worked with Sarri at Napoli for two years before following him to West London over the summer.
